Of course you want high quality air in a house, and when you build a new house you have to follow the building code. The Swedish standard requires air exchange of at least 0.35 l /s/m2, which means you exchange the air in the house every other hour. During the winter months, lots of energy is required to heat all that air. But there are ventilation alternatives where you recycle the heat from the air being blown out of the house.
We are considering three alternatives:
- Centralized ventilation system with heat recovery and ducts
- Lunos, decentralized ventilation system with heat recovery but no ducts
- Natural ventilation with air intake through a pipe in the earth where the air is pre-cooled in the summer and pre-heated in the winter
