Ska man isolera yttertaket?
Should you insulate the exterior
roof?

Ju mer isolering man har i taket desto mindre varm luft
läcker ut till råsponten. Det betyder att den är kallare. Under kalla klara
The more insulation you have in the roof the less heat leaks out to the tongue and groove wood boards above it. That means that the wood is colder with a thicker roof structure. During cold clear nights the roof radiates heat to the sky and there is a risk of condensation on the underside of the wood boards - both from the warm indoor air coming through the insulation and out in the ventilation gap and from the outside air that is cooled off when it hits the wood boards.

To minimize the risk of condensation you can put an insulation board between the
tongue and groove wood boards and the roof membrane. The roof stays warmer and therefore the risk for condensation on the wood is lower. We had planned on an insulation board in the roof structure of the main house where we have 400 mm insulation. But after studying the topic I decided not to invest in the insulation board. The idea is good but the 20 mm we were supposed to have only have a very minimal effect. According to the studies above, you need at least 50-100 mm insulation to get a meaningful effect.
