In November I researched the options for vapor membrane, the thin layer on the inside of the insulation that should stop warm indoor air from going into the insulation and condense. I wrote a blog post about the vapor membrane that we had planned on using which did not work in an environment with cement and stucco/plaster since they have high pH. We decided to go with a variable vapor membrane, Isover Vario Duplex. The permability varies with the humidity. When the humidity is low, in the winter, the membrane is very tight and does not let vapor into the roof insulation. But in the summer when the humidity is higher, the membrane becomes more permeable and lets moisture from the roof structure dry into the home and from there it is ventilated away.
We tape the overlap seams with regular Tesa seal flex tape - very sticky stuff!
