We have bought the floor for the downstairs! We chose Indian slate from Stiltje, neighbor of the local carpenter who is making the main door.
Plattorna är 40 x 60 cm stora. Vi har nu sorterat dem eftersom det är ganska stor variation i både mönster och färger - grå, silver, guld, orange. Då kan vi lägga gula plattor i ett rum och gradvis övergå till gråa nyanser i nästa rum.
The tiles are 40 x 60 cm in size. We have sorted them since there is tremendous variability in both pattern and color - grey, silver, gold and orange. This way we can have the yellow tiles in one room and then gradually move towards grey tones in another room.

Plattorna är kluvna vilket innebär en viss ojämnhet i ytan, men det ger också liv åt plattorna. Ibland ser man tydligt att två plattor hör ihop - det som sticker upp i den ena plattan är en fördjupning i den andra.
The tiles are cut but not polished which means they have a slightly uneven surface, but it provides more life in the floor. Sometimes you clearly see that two tiles belong together - what is erased on one is indented in the other.
Ännu har vi inte bestämt hur vi ska ytbehandla dem, men något måste man använda för att skydda golvet mot vatten och fläckar eftersom porerna i stenen är öppna. Vi lutar åt att använda något som inte förändrar färgen - många produkter gör nämligen stenen mörkare efter behandlingen så det gäller att testa innan man behandlar hela golvet.
We have not yet decided how to treat the floor, but we have to use something to protect the floor from water and stains since the pores of the stone are open. We are leaning towards using something that does not alter the color of the stone - many products darken the color of the stone so it is important to test before treating the entire floor.
